Introductory short film on the exploration and discovery of life in space.
About the Director
Perry Shulak, bfa has been involved in the development and deployment of visual media resources for over 20 years. A large component of those resources were within k-12 curriculum, providing highly visual content that integrated both 2D and 3D animation. He contributes his time as a project manager, writer, designer and 3D animator. He has been recognized through his efforts with six awards from Alberta New Media, nominations from the Alberta Motion Picture Industry Association, and Alberta Gold and Bronze Premier awards. In animation, he has worked with the NFB and other local producers, and has attended many story workshops including the Robert McKee workshop on STORY for film, and the Pixar animation master class in Montreal.
Currently in distribution is immersive dome animation production, “Legends of the Northern Sky”, that he developed as writer, director, concept artist and animator, along with a locally assembled team. The show has been running at the Telus World of Science Edmonton for the past five years, and has been picked up by eight North American facilities. In the last year, the Manitoba Museum licensed the show for six years, and it was converted to French and Mandarin Language. Legends of the Northern Sky was featured in a full dome festival in France where it placed 3rd, and a license for the Mandarin Language version was picked up in China. Most recently, in October 2025, the show was an official selection for the Astra Film Festival in Sibiu, Romania, and it has been licensed for a five-year run at the Ecotarium in Massachusetts.
